Villa Cima is a splendid property situated in one of Europe's most picturesque areas, Lake Como and is actually situated within the Villa d'Este park. Villa Cima is divinely located almost equidistant between Lugano and Milan, while its pleasant countryside drive leads you to many lakeside towns. Originally built in 1815, the Villa Cima is located directly on the lakeshore, 150 meters from the Cardinal Building on the grounds of Villa d'Este, a former 16th Century princely residence surrounded by a 25-acre park. Its beautifully renovated and orange wood hue color blend in colorfully with its surroundings. The lower part of the park in which Villa Cima is situated is from the Renaissance period. The two most outstanding landmarks are its 500-year-old plane tree and the 16th century Mosaic with its Nympheum.

The Lake Region of Italy is best known for Lake Como...at least for Americans. Lake Garda is the most known for Europeans. But by many an opinion, Como the deep blue waters and steep embankments with visible if distant peaks of snow capped Alps make Como a picturesque place without doubt. The Lake is shaped rather like an inverted 'Y', with two 'legs' starting at Como in the South-West and Lecco in the South-East, which join together half way up and the lake continues up to Colico in the North. The first few kilometres of the 'legs' at the southern end of the lake are relatively flat, but Lake Como becomes more mountainous as you head northwards into the Alps. It is long and narrow - 50 km (30 miles) long, and no more than 2 km (1 mile) wide - backed by the snow-capped peaks of the pre-Alps. The area's diversity stretches from the windsurfers and alpine vistas in the north to the busy towns capping the southern arms, such as Como, a Roman town with a glorious cathedral and silk industry, and Lecco, full of literary associations. For centuries Lake Como has drawn in the wealthy and celebrities to claim a piece of its history with gracious villas and verdant gardens. It has inspired composers (Liszt, Verdi, Bellini), film makers (Steven Soderbergh, George Lucas, John Irvin) and writers (Byron, Shelley and Wordsworth). Of course it has inspired many travelers who seek a different side to Italy.
Como - At the southern end of the lake, the lake's main town is a good base and although not as attractive as some of the other towns, it remains an elegant resort.
Tremezzo - Beautiful little town, right across from Bellagio. Main attraction is Villa Carlotta with its splendid botanical garden
Menaggio - The main town on the Western Shore, it's an attractive town and note as touristy as Bellagio and Varenna opposite. It has a Youth Hostel (but it's often full at weekends).
Nesso - A very small town about half way between Como and Bellagio on the western "leg" of the lake.
Bellagio - Very attractive town at the junction of the two 'legs' of the lake. Can be expensive.
Varenna - Another attractive town on the Eastern shore opposite Mennagio and Bellagio. Worth visiting for the attractive and relaxing gardens of Villa Cipresi.
Colico - nice views at the top of the lake, but the town's not that attractive.
Lecco - a less attractive town at the end of the south-eastern 'leg' of the lake.
Menaggio e Cadenabbia Golf Club, just a few km inland from Menaggio, where George Clooney is said to be a member.
