Portofino Promontory, a villa in Portofino on the Italian Riviera, Liguria is a villa Portofino property that is spectacularly located on the promontory of Portofino five minutes by foot from the central piazzetta of Portofino. Portofino is a place for the well healed to enjoy designer shops, overpriced seafood restaurants, and the harbor, with its elegant yachts. Hell even Berlusconi has a villa here where per meter real estate may be the highest in the world. But we digress.... The natural protected area of the promontory of Portofino has been an attraction for centuries with its mild climate and high cliffs dropping to the sea. When one stays in Portofino, one stays on the promontory. A private elevator connects the harbour with the pedestrian road that gets to the lighthouse, along this road are located the most exclusive villas: our rental is about 300 meters from the elevator.
This area is very special with its happy mix of glamorous yet relaxed people, luxury villas, natural trails, village fairs, castle walks, yacht harbour and everywhere you look the turquoise sea. It is best to stay here without a car and use public transportation. No, let me rephrase that: NO ONE has a car here. That would be an intentional torture. Trains on the main rail line from Torino to Rome stop in nearby Rapallo, from there is a bus or cab to Portofino. The local train runs from Santa Margherita to the Cinqueterre and there is a bus from S.Margherita to Portofino. Perfect for: Group or family.

Generally speaking the towns of the Italian Riviera are Santa Margherita, Rapallo, del Sole, Parragi and Portofino. Although the Riviera stretches up to San Remo and into the French Riviera. As you pass from France with Monaco and Menton into Italy - San Remo, you go from the beautiful and completely squeaky clean to hills dusted with run down green houses that once made San Remo the Capital of Flowers. Further down to the real Italian Riviera, there is a land lush with its tropical flora ever blooming. The mountains are stunning with a crown of blue above that ends into a cobalt sea as inviting as the several small plates of antipasti mare mista sitting in front of me. That with a glass or two of Pigato and heaven has been redefined again. Houses are painted in a warm wash that seems to be ever artfully peeling off, exposing the worn burnt stucco underneath from centuries past. There should be a color called Portofino for the ocher these places are painted. Matched by the wooden shutters that are either green or red. Seldom anything else.
Touring Ideas:
Portofino - you're there
Santa Margherita - 4 km
Camogli - 10 km
The Alimentary shops in Santa Margherita can deliver food to the villa (the service is charged)
DISTANCES: Genova Airport: 40 minutes - Florence: Approximately two hours
