Casa La Riva Located in San Siro, Lake Como, Lombardia, Italy. Casa La Riva is a renovated fisherman's cottage of about 130 sqm perched right on a narrow pebble beach along Como's western shore in Santa Maria Rezzonico, just about 6 km north of the fashionable town of Menaggio. La Riva is an extremely pretty original fisherman's house, next to the pebbled shore, above the water. It is situated in the picturesque lake resort of S. Siro, on the north west side of Lake Como. It consists of two double bedrooms, a lofted area with two additional twin beds, three bathrooms and an independent studio for two extra guests including a double bedroom and a bathroom with shower.
La Riva is a charming accommodation. Its stylish interior has been nicely decorated for the comforts of guests. A painted wooden boat adorns the kitchen ceiling. With the village just up the way where the lake catch "Alborelle, Cavedani" and "Pesce Persico", Como's most common fish sought for meals is sold. La Riva is more than a historic house, it is also decorated and furnished with excellent taste for the comfort of guests. The owner has a museum of the ancient lake boats. You MUST make this museum a stop on your lake tour. The visitor needs to park the car a little way from the village and walk the last few yards (approx. 250 m, please have a look to the pedestrian road with steps leading to La Riva). Attenzione: The way to the house leads along several cobbled paths (vicoli) with steps that can be slippery when wet or icy therefore the house is not suitable for elderly guests or people with walking difficulties. Leave your high-heals at home and bring a pair of good walking shoes. In the village you will find a pizzeria, and other shops can be found two kilometers south.
Being right "on the water" La Riva offers beautiful lake view from the interiors and from the large terraces.
Please note that the lake front is public, not private property: you might see occasional walker or fishermen, and they have a perfect right to be there.
The local restaurant is closed after October.
Perfect for: For couples or a family.
The Details:
La Riva develops upward: it consists of two, un-connected parts (cottage and main house), each with independent entrance. Cottage ground floor (about 25 sq) features a nice studio flat with matrimonial bed, kitchenette, bathroom with tub, lovely terrace with a great view of the lake.

First level are a dining room with great view and an open-plan fully equipped kitchen with access to an outdoor large panoramic terrace.
Up one level are the living room with satellite TV; full bath with Jacuzzi and telephone shower; matrimonial bedroom with en-suite bath (shower only).
The top floor contains a second matrimonial bedroom with en-suite bathroom (shower) plus a lofted area with two additional twin beds - we suggest this loft for kids. In the basement are the washing machine and a sauna.

In the small village of San Siro you will find a grocery store, a pizzeria, a restaurant and a bus stop. On shore of the lake there are water sports facilities (boat rental, sailing, surfing), and there are a number of scenic trekking routes that begin at the lake. Furthermore, S.Siro is a pretty, antique hamlet where you can still feel the atmosphere of the ancient past and view the beautiful castle with arcades dating back to the year 1000. In Menaggio, located 5 km from the house, there is a golf course and a tennis court. From Menaggio there are ferries to other villages on the shore and the lake islands. There is a Pizzeria close to the parking. All shops are 2 km southward.
The Lake Region of Italy is best known for Lake Como...at least for Americans. Lake Garda is the most known for Europeans. But by many an opinion, Como the deep blue waters and steep embankments with visible if distant peaks of snow capped Alps make Como a picturesque place without doubt. The Lake is shaped rather like an inverted 'Y', with two 'legs' starting at Como in the South-West and Lecco in the South-East, which join together half way up and the lake continues up to Colico in the North. The first few kilometres of the 'legs' at the southern end of the lake are relatively flat, but Lake Como becomes more mountainous as you head northwards into the Alps. It is long and narrow - 50 km (30 miles) long, and no more than 2 km (1 mile) wide - backed by the snow-capped peaks of the pre-Alps. The area's diversity stretches from the windsurfers and alpine vistas in the north to the busy towns capping the southern arms, such as Como, a Roman town with a glorious cathedral and silk industry, and Lecco, full of literary associations. For centuries Lake Como has drawn in the wealthy and celebrities to claim a piece of its history with gracious villas and verdant gardens. It has inspired composers (Liszt, Verdi, Bellini), film makers (Steven Soderbergh, George Lucas, John Irvin) and writers (Byron, Shelley and Wordsworth). Of course it has inspired many travelers who seek a different side to Italy.
Como - At the southern end of the lake, the lake's main town is a good base and although not as attractive as some of the other towns, it remains an elegant resort.
Tremezzo - Beautiful little town, right across from Bellagio. Main attraction is Villa Carlotta with its splendid botanical garden
Menaggio - The main town on the Western Shore, it's an attractive town and note as touristy as Bellagio and Varenna opposite. It has a Youth Hostel (but it's often full at weekends).
Nesso - A very small town about half way between Como and Bellagio on the western "leg" of the lake.
Bellagio - Very attractive town at the junction of the two 'legs' of the lake. Can be expensive.
Varenna - Another attractive town on the Eastern shore opposite Mennagio and Bellagio. Worth visiting for the attractive and relaxing gardens of Villa Cipresi.
Colico - nice views at the top of the lake, but the town's not that attractive.
Lecco - a less attractive town at the end of the south-eastern 'leg' of the lake.
Menaggio e Cadenabbia Golf Club, just a few km inland from Menaggio, where George Clooney is said to be a member.
