Frantoio Borgo, two ancient buildings that once served as an olive mill and farmers house in near medieval times has been lovingly restored into distinct and affordable vacation rentals in the heart of Chianti Classico. It is a very versatile property in that Frantoio Borgo, two buildings (five "houses") with independent quarters, can be rented as a "borgo" for up to 22 people - or - as individual rentals for a couple or more. Therefore it is good for couples, families, friends and groups. A "borgo" is best described as a hamlet that first began as a single farmer's house and over the decades the family grew, and as Italians never leave home, homes were attached and a borgo created.
For those that seek the Chianti Classico, and the modern conveniences of 21st century living, Frantoio Borgo is your next stop in good living. Close to the village of Mercatale Val di Pesa (shops, restaurants, etc) and San Casciano (many more shops, restaurants, etc), 20 minutes to Florence and olives, vineyards and sunflowers steps away from your door...well...you better not forget your camera.
You get to Borgo Frantoio via a short drive along a country lane (reads: 300 meters of dirt road) lined with Italian cypress trees. I am fond of saying when you go from a paved road, to a white road to a dirt road - you're getting close to your rental! All apartments have an outdoor area for al fresco dining; there is also an outdoor common area with parasol and lounge chairs where guests can relax together. Each accommodation has been furnished with love and care with mellow colored walls, classic terra cotta floors, cypress beamed ceilings, original art and Tuscan antiques. A designer's eye for tradition.
Perfect for: families and couples.

Borgo Frantoio is located in the best position for you wine lovers. 2 km from Mercatale and 3 km or so from San Casciano. This means you have good wine and good food via a short drive or a long walk via country roads, if you're feeling ambitious. The address for the Borgo is actually San Casciano as Mercatale is on the comune of San Casciano Val di Pesa. From here you can visit Florence and Siena, the medioeval tuscan hilltop village, the Chianti Classico vineyards. You can shop in the weekly open-air markets in local villages. Greve - Major wine distribution center with the rural charm of a market town. A wine fair is held in late September. Explorers Amerigo Vespucci (for which "America" is named) and Giovanni da Verrazzano (for whom the longest suspension bridge in the United States is named) are native sons.
Castellina in Chianti - "The Heart of Chianti" as it has been called. Castellina in Chianti has Etruscan beginnings and is a mildly fortified hill town with fortified wine.
Radda in Chianti - Piccolo Museo del Chianti - displays of winemaking techniques and the history of the region's vineyards Badia de Coltibuono, a 12th century monastery which has been converted into a luxury restaurant and wine-cellar.
Gaiole in Chianti - Gaiole is considered the capitol of Chianti, but you would never know it from the village, as it is very unassuming, even dull for the tourist.
