A Little on the Region
The nearest shopping center is in Impruneta, two kilometers away, where you can purchase all your food and supplies. The Golf Club Ugolino (18 holes) is 10 minutes away, where there is also a tennis club. Florence is 12 km. away, Siena 50 km., Pisa 80 km., and Greve 12 km. The villa is just off of the famous Chiantigiana (Route 222), giving easy access to the Chianti Hills in one direction and Florence in the other. There is also a bus to the center of Florence on this road. Day tripping possibilities are endless and enticing. From here you can visit Florence and Siena, the medioeval tuscan hilltop village, the Chianti Classico vineyards. You can shop in the weekly open-air markets in local villages. Impruneta is a Tuscan hill town located between the valleys of the Greve and the Ema streams, about half an hour south of Florence. It was known in ancient times as "in prunetis" or "in pineta" (within the pine woods) and indeed remnants of beautiful pine forests may still be seen interspersed among the olive groves on some of the surrounding hills. During the medieval period, Impruneta and the surrounding villages were part of the fiefdom of the Buondelmonti family whose castle was in the village of Montebuoni. The family retreated to Florence where the Buondelmonti and the Fifani families played a significant role. Their responsibility arose most notably from an infamous drunken fight and subsequent macchinations regarding whose daughter would marry whom, leading up to the murder of Buondelmonti di Buondelmonti, on his wedding day during Easter 1216, by Oddo Arrighi of Fifanti. Years of factional bloodshed are said to have begun with this event.
Greve - Major wine distribution center with the rural charm of a market town. A wine fair is held in late September. Explorers Amerigo Vespucci (for which "America" is named) and Giovanni da Verrazzano (for whom the longest suspension bridge in the United States is named) are native sons.
Castellina in Chianti - "The Heart of Chianti" as it has been called. Castellina in Chianti has Etruscan beginnings and is a mildly fortified hill town with fortified wine.
Radda in Chianti - Piccolo Museo del Chianti - displays of winemaking techniques and the history of the region's vineyards
Badia de Coltibuono, a 12th century monastery which has been converted into a luxury restaurant and wine-cellar.
Gaiole in Chianti - Gaiole is considered the capitol of Chianti, but you would never know it from the village, as it is very unassuming, even dull for the tourist.

And there's loads of other places in Chianti Classico. But remember one thing, don't drink and drive like us!
