The Aragonese Castle, easily considered Ischia's most impressive historical monument, stands on a volcanic rock connected to the island by a bridge first built in 1438 by Alfonso of Aragon. Hence the name of the The Castle which came soon there after.
Overlooking the vast Mediterranean sea the castle was originally constructed as a simple hermetic tower in 474 BC by Gerone of Siracusa. After a long period of abandonment the castle and Ischia reached a golden period during the fourteenth century. Under the Aragonese dynasty of the 15th century this unique place became a political, cultural and spiritual center of regional interest. The Renaissance court of the noble poet Vittoria Colonna (intimate friend of Michelangelo) joined its history and lived here during the peak of the castle's splendour, but also the beginning of its decline, which was to last more than a century. The Aragonese Castle makes for an amazing and interesting rental. You simply won't find another like this. It's unique, that is undeniable. Parking is a big problem on the island. No need to bring a car. Frequent buses as well as taxi service make it easy to get around the island without a car, and of course it is an easy walk into town from the point. Scooter can be rented.

A lift connects the entrance of the Castle to the top, approx. 80 m above sea level, where the apartments are situated. Each apartment has its own independent entrance through an ancient courtyard. The three units have been recently renovated by the owner, son of a famous artist, whose paintings grace the apartment walls. All have windows and outdoor spaces with unforgettable views.
